I came home today and my envelope from Bikram headquarters was sitting on the kitchen table. Payment has been received and I now have the dialogue that will be with me for the rest of my life. (I say this because I plan to never stop teaching or practicing Bikram yoga.) I’m pretty freaked out about training and receiving this document further makes teacher training a reality. I’ve read a ton of other trainee blogs and it’s hard to not let all the stories of sleep deprivation, mental breakdowns, and two hour classes stress me out. The thing that weighs most hevily on my mind is leaving my wife and son for nine weeks. That is going to be the hardest part of training.

On Saturday, July 16th Bikram Yoga Missouri City near Houston will celebrate its Grand Opening. Last year, the studio director Danielle Pratt called me and asked if I would help her with the website design. These are my favorite phone calls. I’ve helped many studio owners open their yoga studios, and I always explain to them that they are creating a brand. Initially they ask for a website, but I mention that along with the website I can create all the marketing materials needed to open and launch a studio.
Branding is my speciality, and is what I have my college degree in. I create and apply a studio owner’s specific message based upon their likes and dislikes while keeping in mind the unique benefits of Bikram yoga. It’s a wonderful creative process and I love it. Every client is different and each has their own style.

I was recently asked to produce a poster to promote Bikram Teacher Training. Even with 400+ teachers getting certified with each training session, there are still studio’s out there that need instructors. The graphic references the 1917 Uncle Sam poster used to recruit soldiers for both World War I and World War II. It seemed fitting for Yoga Boot Camp. Anyway, the photo of 2006 Yoga Champion Ky Ha was used by permission and photographed by Xing thonx.sg. I think the poster is being distributed through Bikram headquarters to the studios. Each studio owner can change the date at the bottom so it can be reused each semester.

Yes. It’s true. I finally registered for Fall 2011 Bikram teacher training. While on vacation I had some time to sit down and really think about going. The day after I got back I filled out the online registration and I’ve now put together all the paperwork needed to officially sign up. Online registration is just the first step, and I have to get my paperwork in by August 1st.
